If flowers had preferences like humans… we’d never have any blossoms

I recently had the joy of speaking at Creative Mornings Boulder. All around the world, different chapters were exploring the theme Blossom, and I loved sharing my own take and interpretation of it. You can watch the recording to hear my talk and get a sense of the event.

My favorite part is when I act out two flowers talking to each other… and conclude with this “if flowers had the amount of preferences that human beings do, we’d never have any blossoms…

I used the talk as a time to dive into some of the deepest teachings of my coaching practice, while using the theme of theme of the month “Blossom.”

A favorite moment of the morning was when  I invited everyone to curl up like tiny seeds under the soil,

stretch slowly into tall stalks, and finally open into blossoms — each one unique, wild, still. For a moment, the whole room was blossoming together. And then, like everything in life, those blossoms die… impermanent, briefly beautiful, then done. The room laughed as they were invited to whither and fade.

My invitation that morning was simple: let’s shift our posture toward life: More love. More openness. More curiosity. More awe. More gratitude.

The blossom doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It doesn’t question the sun or resist the rain. It simply blooms. And then it returns to the soil so something new can grow.

Our lives are the same. It’s not the big milestones that shape us most — it’s the micro-moments. The tiny acts of courage, kindness, curiosity, and joy that ripple into something far larger than we may ever see.

So here’s the call: wherever we are, in whatever way we are able, we can choose to bloom. We have the choice every single day, over and over again to shift our perspective and to stop waiting for “the right time” or the “perfect conditions” to live our own beautiful selves.

Choose presence. Choose love. Choose curiosity.

And sometimes, before we can get there, it helps to let out a growl. That’s why I love inviting people to become bobcats — claws out, voices loud — especially adults need playful ways to release before we can open again.

Your next frustrating moment is coming — I promise. But in that moment, you can choose something different. You can blossom.

This invitation to speak reminded me how much I love sharing in this way! I’m excited to begin  sharing my writing more regularly. You’ll see more of these notes from me: reflections, simple practices, and updates about gatherings and offerings. My hope is that they land as a small pause in your day — a reminder to breathe, and an invitation to stay connected and choose your perspective. After all, this moment is the only thing we have any choice over. So where will we choose from? And where will the next moment lead as a result?

With love and gratitude,

Paige
